Fine Art Print Phenakistoscopes Optical Toy Animation 1833
26,34 €
Description
Step back in time to the very beginnings of moving image technology with this captivating fine art print. The artwork depicts Phenakistoscopes from 1833, a pivotal device that is widely considered among the earliest forms of animation and a key precursor to modern cinema. Originally a popular Victorian parlour toy, often marketed for children, it masterfully created the illusion of movement. Imagine the wonder as these animations came alive by spinning the disc and viewing the reflection in a mirror through moving slits. This print captures the intricate details of how women danced, men bowed, and animals leapt in short, repeating sequences through the device's flickering effect. It is a stunning visual celebration of early technological innovation and creative spirit. This print is the perfect addition to any space for enthusiasts of film history, animation, vintage technology, or design. Ideal for a living room, home theater, study, or creative office, it sparks curiosity and pays homage to the roots of the visual media we enjoy today. Bring a conversation piece rich with historical significance into your environment. This fine art print also makes a thoughtful and unique gift for anyone fascinated by the evolution of visual arts and technological invention.

Frequently asked questions
What materials are used?
Our posters are printed on high-quality semi-glossy paper at 170gsm – sturdy enough to last, yet flexible enough to ship without creasing. The semi-glossy finish delivers vibrant colors and razor-sharp detail without distracting glare.
Are framed posters available?
Yes! Alongside unframed posters, selected designs are also available framed. The poster is already mounted inside the frame – no assembly or fitting required, just unbox and hang.
Are the frames ready to hang?
Yes, absolutely. All frames arrive fully assembled, including hanging hardware. Just unbox and hang it up – no tools and no assembly required.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is a flat 4.95 € per order and free on orders from 50 €. This applies to every country we ship to. Digital downloads never have shipping costs. Since your order is usually produced and shipped by a print partner in your region, you typically won't run into extra customs charges.
Where do you ship to?
We currently ship to 38 countries: all 27 EU member states plus Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and the United Kingdom, as well as the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and Brazil. You can find the full list on our "Shipping & Delivery" page. Your order is automatically produced by the print partner closest to your delivery address, which means shorter transport routes and faster delivery.
How long does shipping take?
Every poster is printed after you order. Production takes 1–3 business days, followed by 3–7 business days of shipping depending on the destination country. In total, your order usually arrives within 4–10 business days. Framed posters take a little longer to produce. As soon as your parcel is on its way, you will receive an email with the tracking number and a tracking link.
Who produces my order?
Your order isn't made in one central warehouse – it's produced through a network of print-on-demand partners specialized in high-quality poster and frame printing. Depending on where you live, the printer closest to you handles production and shipping, which saves time and avoids unnecessary transport distances. That way you get the same quality in every country we ship to, without long wait times.
Can I return my order?
If your poster ever arrives damaged or there's a quality issue, we'll take care of it right away with a free replacement or a full refund – just reach out to us.
Since every poster is made specifically for you, cancellation without a reason (e.g. simply not liking it) is legally excluded. Not sure about your order? Just message us before you buy – we're happy to help you decide.
